Celtic 'vying' for Ardon Jashari transfer but face competition from Italy, England and Germany

Celtic face a battle with clubs across Europe for FC Luzern skipper Ardon Jashari, according to reports.

Ange Postecoglou has always made his intentions clear when it comes to transfers that he would like his work done as soon as possible and with that approach in mind he has already snapped up three winter recruits. Alistair Johnston, Yuki Kobayashi and Tomoki Iwata have all put pen to paper at Parkhead but it appears incomings may not stop at the trio.

Sky Sports Germany report that the Scottish champions are 'vying' with the likes of RB Leipzig, Frankfurt, Leeds and Napoli for the central midfielder. The Swiss Super League side have him tied down to a long-term deal until 2026 with the same report claiming it would take a fee in the region of £5-6million to prize him away.

The 20-year-old was part of the World Cup squad for Qatar and was a late Switzerland substitute in their hammering off Portugal in the last 16 stage of the finals. So far this season on the domestic front he has featured 17 times and provided four assists.

Speaking yesterday after snapping up Iwata, Postecoglou told the Celtic website: “We really are delighted to be bringing Tomoki to Celtic and I am sure he will be a player that our supporters will like.

“He is a versatile player who can operate in defence in midfield, a really committed footballer with some great attributes. He is at a great age for us where his career is on the right trajectory, but he already has a good level of experience.

“He has just had a brilliant season, he is very deserving of the accolade he has recently received as Japan’s Player of the Year and we are sure he can also bring this real high level of quality to our squad.”
