Celtic v Rangers won't be biggest match in Glasgow this weekend claims Irvine Vics boss

Celtic vs Rangers won’t be the biggest game in the East End of Glasgow this Saturday, according to Dougie MacDuff anyway.

His Irvine Vics side travel to take on fellow title hopefuls Vale of Clyde this weekend just a stone’s throw away from the Old Firm match at Celtic Park.

And with both sides chasing top spot and promotion from the West of Scotland Third Division, MacDuff has hailed it as the biggest game in the city this week.

He laughed: “We’re a mile or so away from the Old Firm, but I’m hoping we get a bigger crowd! There’s a headline, ‘Irvine Vics manager says Old Firm isn’t the biggest game in the East End of Glasgow this week’.

“Their manager will probably say the same, it’s a great advert for the West of Scotland League.

“It’s just unfortunate that it’s on the same day as another game like that, but it’s just one of those things.”

Vale of Clyde head into the match on the back of seven straight league wins, with Vics winning their last five in a row.

MacDuff knows how challenging the clash will be. He said: “They’re an exceptional team, they have got a lot of good players.

It’ll be a hard game, we’ve got to go there and try and take something from it. They’ll be saying the same thing, they’re two points behind us so there’s pressure on them being the home team. Both teams can score goals, but it’s the two best defences in the league so it’ll be interesting because don’t get me wrong we’re both attacking teams.

“We are relishing it, my boys have been talking about it for a month and now we can go and take it on.”
