Celtic transfer news and headlines as Rangers idea backed, Lennon's 'smoke signal' solution

Here are your Celtic headlines for Saturday, June 20.

Collins backs Colts idea

John Collins believes there is a place in Scottish football for Celtic and Rangers Colt teams.

The controversial issue continues to divide fans up and down the country and the idea was recently put forward by the Ibrox club as part of their league reconstruction proposal.

The idea was rejected, but former Hibs man Collins insists the development of Celtic and Rangers youngsters wouldn't just benefit the Old Firm, but the Scottish national side would reap the rewards too.

He told BBC Sportsound: "I think there is a place for B teams.

"I have watched Celtic and Rangers reserve teams last season a lot and there is talent there.

"The problem you have got with these 17 to 19 year-olds is they will not get into Celtic's team because they have got McGregor and top players in front of them.

"But they need pushed and developed. It works in Spain, Portugal, Germany and Croatia.

"It's such an important time in their development at that age and if they are playing in the reserve team winning comfortably every week they don't get that development.

"As soon as they get into that league set-up and they are playing in front of fans and against adults that are fighting for a £50 bonus they get tested and stretched.

"For me it's not about Celtic or Rangers it's about Scottish talent for the national team.

"That was a great idea by Rangers, a great proposal and it should have been implemented instantly because it's the best thing for young talent."

No bids for Edouard or Ajer

Neil Lennon says there are no bids on the table for Odsonne Edouard or Kris Ajer.

The pair have been widely linked with a move away from Parkhead this summer, but the Celtic boss is confident he can keep them for at least another season.

He said: “I was absolutely delighted with Odsonne last season. He really kicked on with his round game and his contribution in terms of goals.

“I was delighted for him on a personal level to win the Football Writers Player of the Year.

"He was absolutely thrilled and it’s probably the accolade to win in the Scottish game. It was great to hear how he is tunnel visioned in terms of what he wants to achieve here next season.

“Will there be bids for Odsonne? I don’t know. There’s been no bids for anyone at the minute, which is pleasing because I want to maintain the continuity.

“It’s the same with Kris Ajer. There’s been talk but nothing has come in.

“You want these guys to be part of something really special if we can achieve what we are setting out to do this season.”

“We’ll do all we can to keep him happy for as long as possible."

Lennon's 'smoke signal' solution

Neil Lennon is thinking outside of the box so his x-rated touchline rants cannot be heard on TV.

With games being played behind closed doors on football's return, manager's instructions have been picked up on some broadcasts. Sky were forced to apologise for some foul language heard on air during their coverage of Norwich vs Southampton.

When Lennon was asked if he had any ideas to curb the potential issue, he joked: "I might wear a mask. Or send smoke signals or something like that. Or turn the microphones off in the technical area."
