Celtic team news vs Motherwell as Brendan Rodgers names starting XI

Brendan Rodgers has named his Celtic side to take on Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership.

The Parkhead club are hoping to extend their gap at the top of the table ahead of both St Mirren and Rangers, who play later on.

Scott Bain makes his first start of the season as he takes the place of the suspended Joe Hart. Yang Hyun-jun also comes into the side as James Forrest drops out.

CELTIC XI:  Bain, Johnston, Lagerbielke, Scales, Taylor, McGregor, O'Riley, Hatate, Yang, Maeda, Kyogo

SUBS: Siegrist, Phillips, Palma, Turnbull, Holm, Oh, Tomoki, Forrest, Ralston

MOTHERWELL XI: Kelly, O’Donnell, McGinn, Mugabi, Casey, Spencer, Miller, Slattery, Paton, Spittal, Bair

SUBS: Oxborough, Gent, L. Ross, M. Ross, Blaney, Souare, Shaw, Zdravkovski, Wilkinson

Matt O'Riley has signed a new four-year deal at Celtic.

The Danish midfielder has penned new terms to remain at Parkhead until 2027.

The news comes just one day on from Reo Hatate's bumper five-year deal being announced.

O'Riley follows a string of first-team players to commit his future to Celtic after new contracts for Callum McGregor, Anthony Ralston, Liel Abada, Kyogo Furuhashi and Daizen Maeda.

The 22-year-old - who joined the club from MK Dons in January last year - has made 80 appearances for Celtic to date, scoring 12 goals

“It’s probably hard to put it into a short sentence but I think everybody knows how much I enjoy playing here, especially at Celtic Park because I don’t think you get that anywhere else," O'Riley told Celtic TV.

'I’ve said before that I’m just really grateful to be a part of a club like this and hopefully we can achieve more good things together.'

“I can’t express how much I enjoy playing my football here, genuinely. It’s really nice to feel part of a family of football.

“I think that’s quite rare, in terms of everything we do on and off the pitch, in terms of community work and charities etc… I think it’s unique and to be a part of that is special.

"I think it’s important going into training every day really enjoying the company of your team-mates, being able to have a laugh and being able to push each other as well.
