Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths recognised by SPFL after hat-trick

Leigh Griffiths has been named 'Star Man' in the SPFL's Team of the Week.

The striker scored a hat-trick in Celtic's 5-0 win over St Mirren on Saturday, and his performance has been recognised by the SPFL.

He's joined in the starting XI by Rangers keeper Allan McGregor, who kept a clean sheet as his side won 1-0 against Ross County in Dingwall.

Griffiths' performance impressed manager Neil Lennon, who told BBC Scotland: " "He's got a bit to do.

"But that's far more like him. He's been working hard ever since the beginning of the year, I don't know how many goals he's got now, maybe that's him up to 11 which is a great return considering he hasn't played that much.

"We know what we've got with him. I'm just pleased for him on a personal level. He's come a long, long way."

Griffiths could be involved on Sunday when Celtic travel to Ibrox. Lennon's side go into the game with a 13-point lead over Rangers in the Premiership.

It was confirmed today that the derby will be refereed by John Beaton, who last took charge of a meeting between the sides in December 2018.

The abuse received by Beaton in the wake of that game led to him receiving a police escort to his next game.
