Celtic starlet makes injury comeback to assist B team win in Lowland League debut

Celtic youngster Daniel Kelly made a big impression on his comeback from injury as he helped the B team beat Broomhill on his Lowland League debut.

The midfielder from East Kilbride, who just turned 16 last month, climbed off the bench to set up the Hoops’ third goal in Saturday’s 4-2 triumph.

It was the talented teen’s first appearance for the Hoops at this level - having been an unused substitute in recent matches against Berwick Rangers and Spartans - and marked his return from a hip flexor injury.

Kelly replaced Frankie Deane after 76 minutes of the clash at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie and within three minutes of coming on, he provided the assist for Ben Summer to net Celtic’s third goal of the game.

In June last year, Kelly signed a four-year contract that will keep him at Parkhead until 2024, amid interest from a host of top clubs in Europe.

The former St Leonards Primary School pupil first caught the eye of Celtic playing above his age group for East Kilbride Caledonian Thistle’s 2004 team.

Proud dad Craig said: “Daniel assisted the third goal while not long on the park.

“He’s just back from Injury and working super hard.”

Celtic B are in the Lowland League with Lanarkshire sides Cumbernauld Colts, Caledonian Braves and East Kilbride. The Hoops are currently sixth in the table and trail fifth-place EK by three points, but have two games in hand.
