Celtic recall Adam Montgomery from Fleetwood Town loan

Celtic have recalled Adam Montgomery from his loan spell at Fleetwood Town.

The left-back joined the League One side in the summer back when former Hoops captain Scott Brown was in charge of the club.

The Parkhead legend was relieved of his duties in early September, though.

Ex-Hibernian boss Lee Johnson came in, however, he was also dismissed by the club in that time.

Montgomery - who enjoyed a successful season-long loan at St Johnstone last term - made just six appearances for Fleetwood, with injuries playing their part.

It remains to be seen if he will now be sent out on loan to another team by Brendan Rodgers or used as left-back cover in the first team fold.

A Fleetwood statement reads: "Fleetwood Town can confirm defender Adam Montgomery has been recalled by his parent club Celtic FC.

"The 21-year-old featured six times for the Cod Army, with his first being in the 2-0 home win over Tranmere Rovers in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy.

"Montgomery's spell on the Fylde Coast was hindered by a succession of injuries which limited the defender's time on the pitch during his short spell at the League One side.

"Everyone at the club would like to thank Adam for his efforts and wish him all the best for the future back up north of the border where he will join back up with the Hoops."

Meanwhile, Celtic star Reo Hatate revealed he was stunned he was included in Japan's Asian Cup squad because he thought injury would rule him out.

The Hoops ace looks certain to win his sixth cap when Japan kick off their tournament tomorrow with a game against Vietnam in Doha and they also play Iraq and Indonesia.

Hatate was ruled out for the Celtic for over two months after a hamstring injury in October and only returned to play the last 19 minutes in the Parkhead side's final game before the split at St Mirren.
