Celtic player ratings vs Motherwell as super subs prove key for Hoops in Fir Park victory

Celtic came out as 2-1 winner in their Premiership match with Motherwell at Fir Park.

Kyogo Furuhashi opened the scoring inside the first quarter when home midfielder Callum Slattery's dithered on the ball and allowed Matt O'Riley to play a square ball across the box. It could have been so different had Steelman Kevin Van Veen converted upon rounding Hoops goalkeeper Joe Hart in the opening few minutes but his shot only found the post.

It wasn't Ange Postecoglou's side at their scintillating best but they did have it in the net again when Jota notched past Liam Kelly, but the offside flag cut that off. Giorgos Giakoumakis should have put it out of sight but Daizen Maeda looked to have made sure of the points before a goal from Ross Tierney halved the deficit instantly. Here is how we rated the players from the Celtic performance as they remain seven points clear at the top.

Joe Hart - 6

Very nearly caught out early doors. Helpless with the 'Well goal and very little else to do all evening.

Josip Juranovic - 6

A pre-game boost with news he's going to the World Cup. Couple of impressive driving runs from defence and did enough defensively.

Cameron Carter-Vickers - 8

So calm and composed. Played the game at walking pace and was still a colossus, winning every tackle. A real leader in the camp.

Carl Starfelt - 6

Only the post stopped the returning Swede from a lamentable goal on his return to Premiership action.

Greg Taylor - 6

One or two slack moments but an otherwise routine night for the Scotland international.

Matt O'Riley - 7

Big contribution for the first goal as his midfield counterpart went to sleep. His boss' mantra is 'We Never Stop' and that was the for his Danish youth star, who was up and down the park all night.

Reo Hatate - 6

Not at his best and couldn't add a third in as many games against the Steelmen. Forced into the scrap midfield became as the night wore on.

Aaron Mooy - 6

Grafted particularly well in the first half but influence faded in the second as things got more dogged.

Jota - 6

Thought he had a goal to savour but quickly chopped off. Got the better of Stephen O'Donnell a couple of times but a quiet night by his standards.

Kyogo Furuhashi- 7

In the right place at the right time to score and put in a power of defensive work too. Turned provider on occasion too.

Liel Abada - 5

A quiet night for the Israeli. No real trouble of note caused to Matt Penney and hooked after an hour.

David Turnbull - 5

Returning to the club that developed him and reminded them of his ability with a sumptuous pass for Maeda's goal.

Sead Haksabanovic - 4

Got busy in the final third but largely ineffectual when it came to end product.

Giorgos Giakoumakis - 4

Should have scored shortly after coming on.

Daizen Maeda - 6

Brought on late to stretch a tiring home defence and provided a finishing touch which proved so key.

Oliver Abildgaard - 3

Another cameo role for the Dane.
