Celtic 'open talks' with Rennes over exciting teenage full-back Brandon Soppy

Celtic have reportedly 'opened talks' with promising French teenager Brandon Soppy.

The 19-year-old right-back becomes the latest name to be linked with a move to Parkhead this summer, as new Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou works to put his own mark on the club's squad.

And with loan flops Shane Duffy, Diego Laxalt and Jonjoe Kenny all heading back to their respective parent clubs after a string of woeful displays last season, and Kristoffer Ajer keen to leave, strengthening in defence has become a priority for Postecoglou.

The usually reliable transfer guru Fabrizio Romano took to social media last night to claim Soppy - who has been capped at various youth levels by France - was being targeted by Celtic, with talks already apparently underway his current club Rennes.

Celtic have been linked with several defenders in the last fortnight but, as yet, moves for Carl Starfelt, Mario Vuskovic and Aaron Hickey have failed to come off.

It remains to be seen whether new CEO Dominic McKay could pull off something of a coup by securing the signature of one of French football's most exciting young talents.
