Celtic midfielder David Turnbull highlights 'impossible' quality of teammate Tom Rogic

David Turnbull insists he is privileged to be learning his Celtic craft from Tom Rogic after revealing the Australian international was a nightmare opponent in his Motherwell days.

Both men found the net as Neil Lennon’s side made it three wins on the bounce with an emphatic 4-0 win over St Mirren in midweek.

Turnbull was among many impressed by the performance of his midfield partner, who scored the opening goal in the first half with a terrific curling shot from just inside the Buddies' box.

The 28-year-old has struggled with injuries in a difficult season for the Parkhead side, but added his first league goal since March to an impressive finish against AC Milan in the Europa League.

It is exactly what Turnbull has come to expect from his teammate after being on the receiving end of a runaround from the Socceroo while in the Fir Park engine room.

And after making the move to Celtic Park in the summer, he maintains he could not have a better tutor to help him adjust to the step up in level.

"When I was up against Tom with Motherwell I always felt it was impossible to get the ball off him," he recalled.

"He's just so strong, he can hold the ball up and hold you off as well. There's so many good touches – it's just hard to get the ball off him.

"He's the same in training. He's right up there with the best I've played with or against. You see his technical ability when he plays.

"We've been playing together recently and hopefully he can continue to show it.

"He looked very sharp the other night, especially in the second half when we all kind of clicked together. We all showed our ability but Tom especially."
