Celtic loanee Marco Tilio to return to Glasgow as a champion after Grand Final win

Celtic loanee Marco Tilio has won the A-League Grand Final with Melbourne City.

The midfielder, 23, played from the start for his loan club in the narrow 1-0 triumph over rivals Melbourne Victory.

Yonatan Cohen scored the only goal with just 10 minutes on the clock as he slotted home a rebound after a strike crashed off the crossbar.

Tilio will return to Glasgow in the summer as a champion with his fourth A-League Premiership winners medal following the loan spell.

The creative player, capped nine times for Australia, will be back at Celtic in July after his loan deal officially ends.

He has a further three years on his contract at Celtic.

Tilio previously insisted he would return to Celtic as a better player. He said: "If I’m being completely honest, I think I’m in a better position now than I was back then when I first went to Celtic.

"I’ve matured a lot in the last couple of years. I had my first injury going over to Scotland and pretty much ridden all those waves, and here I am now.

"I feel more mature. I feel more a complete player now and my understanding of the game is a lot better.

"I speak to obviously team managers at Celtic and there’s a loans manager who reaches out after most games.

"We’re back and forth in conversation.

"Since I moved to Celtic, I’ve just been looking to find consistent game time, consistently in playing and in my body feeling confident in that again.

“Here I am now in that position, and I’m really glad where I am.

"I’ve found it hard to find consistency over the last couple of years with injury problems. Now I think I have found consistency and confidence and I believe in myself when I’m in this sort of position.

"I know what I can bring to the team."
