Celtic hero Scott Brown says Fleetwood Town 'hell' inspired FA Cup history as he makes 'giants' quip

Scott Brown has opened up on the 'hell' he gave his Fleetwood Town starts that inspired FA Cup history for the Celtic legend.

The Cod Army reached the fifth round of the competition for the first time after a fourth round reply win over English League One leaders Sheffield Wednesday. Carlos Mendes Gomes’ header in the second half was the difference on the night as the Hoops hero set up a clash with English Championship runaway table toppers Burnley.

Brown slammed his team in the weekend defeat to Burton Albion branding them 'schoolboy' and 'Sunday League' but they landed huge pass marks in this clash with the gaffer labelling his team as 'exceptional' as he thanked them for taking his messages on board in the build-up.

The legendary Celtic skipper even made a quip about his men facing 'the land of the giants' in the second period with his side not the biggest on paper. But they stood tall in this one and earned a crack at Vincent Kompany and Co in the next round. Speaking to BBC Radio Lancashire, he said: "We seem to like the cup!

"We were playing an exceptional team and at half time I turned around to see the land of the giants coming on. They brought the big guns on and for us, we were a small team today.

"But what we did do is look after the ball. I am delighted for these lads as I have gave them hell the last couple of days.

"I wasn't happy with the performance in the [Burton Albion] game, there was no composure, we didn't control anything so the last couple of days we have been working hard and watching a lot of videos, getting an understanding of the plan.

"On Saturday nobody listened, today was exceptional, balls in the box we defended with our lives, not the tallest team, but you have to have that aggression and desire. Second half was always going to be a bit deeper.

"I thought the lads were exceptional. I can't thank them enough for taking it in as it was always going to be a hard game, and they stood up to it."
