Celtic flop John Barnes set for management return as Welsh second-tier side make their move

Celtic flop John Barnes could be set to return to management, with reports he's being lined up to take charge of Welsh second division side Bangor City.

Barnes was appointed as manager of Celtic ahead of the 1999-2000 season, working under director of football Kenny Dalglish .

He lasted only 29 games though, and was sacked in February after an infamous Scottish Cup defeat to Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

After a relatively successful stint with the Jamaican national team he took charge of Tranmere Rovers, but was sacked after three wins in 12 games - a run which also included eight defeats.

That was his last job in club management, with Barnes dismissed 10 years ago this month, but the North Wales Chronicle reports he could soon return to the dugout.

According to the newspaper, new Bangor City FC owner Domenico Serafino is keen to bring him to the club, following the departure of Stephen Vaughan Jr.

Vaughan Jr was both chairman and manager until Serafino's consortium took over, and was removed from the latter role following a 7-0 defeat to Prestatyn Town.

Barnes won two league titles with Liverpool as a player, as well as being capped 79 times by England .
