Celtic favourite Tom Rogic completes free transfer as new boss hails capture of 'serial winner'

Tom Rogic has completed his move to English Championship outfit West Brom.

The Celtic fans' favourite has been without a team since departing the Scottish champions in the summer following a trophy-laden nine-year stint at the club. There had been lots of talk surrounding the Australia international and his next move, but he has now decided on his future penning a one-year deal, with his new club holding a further year option at the Hawthorns.

Steve Bruce is delighted to have secured a play of such quality. He's described his new signing as a 'serial winner' and believes he will prove to be a top signing for the club. He told the official club website : “Tom is a quality player who has played nearly 300 games for Celtic, including a significant number of games just last season.

“He has proven to be a quality player, a serial winner, and a top professional. He can play in several positions across midfield and I’m confident he will prove to be a great acquisition for the club. I’m delighted to have him with us.”

Rogic added: “I heard about the club’s interest in me about a week ago, I spoke with the manager, who seems like a really good guy, and I spoke with my agent and here we are.

“I was looking for a change of scenery and a fresh challenge. I didn’t just want to rush into anything. I think it was important for me to take my time and make sure my next club was the right club. I had some time to reflect and I now feel refreshed and re-energised and excited about the future. I’m really looking forward to getting started at Albion.

“I think it’s fair to say the team hasn’t got the results the performances have warranted so far this season. I know that the manager and the boys are looking to change that as quickly as possible.”

A club statement read: "Albion have signed Australia midfielder Tom Rogic on a one-year deal, with a further year’s option in the club’s favour, subject to international clearance.

"The 29-year-old, who has earned 53 caps for his country, arrives at The Hawthorns after leaving Scottish side Celtic at the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

"Rogic, who represented his nation at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, won 16 major honours during his nine years in Glasgow, including six Scottish Premiership league titles, five Scottish FA Cups and five Scottish League Cups.

"The Australian is comfortable playing in a number of positions across midfield and Baggies boss Steve Bruce is thrilled to have him on board."
