Celtic fans to gather in Glasgow city centre today for trophy celebrations

Celtic fans are expected to descend on the city centre this afternoon for trophy day celebrations.

The team is set to play against Aberdeen at Celtic Park where they will be presented with the cinch Premiership trophy for the second year in a row.

As well as the club organising entertainment on Celtic Way from 10am and the Green Brigade preparing 'the most ambitious tifo in Scotland' from 12.15pm, fans have planned their own celebrations in the Merchant City after the match.

Council bosses have said they are putting extra measures in place to deal with the clean-up and will be working with Police Scotland to deal with the crowds.

A spokesperson for the local authority said: "We are aware of the likelihood of fans gathering in the city centre following the trophy presentation on Saturday.

“We have been working with Police Scotland to ensure appropriate arrangements are in place to help manage any gathering.

“Additional resources will be deployed to deal with any build-up of waste and we will be monitoring the situation closely.

“Fans are entitled to enjoy the success of their club but we urge anyone joining any celebrations to respect their surroundings and be considerate of others at all times.”

The comments come following the Scottish Premiership title party celebrations in 2022 that resulted in anti-social behaviour and buildings being damaged by crowds.

Glasgow City Council were left with a bill of around £17,000 for the clear-up and repairs following the celebrations.

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: “We are aware of football fans planning to gather in Glasgow City Centre on Saturday, May 27.

“As with all football events, we are working with our partners and have a proportionate policing plan in place to maintain public safety and minimise any disruption to the public.”
