Celtic fans in hysterics at one man Rangers comedy show as Hotline regular takes heat off Michael Beale

Michael Beale owes Rangers fan and Hotline caller Scott Gowers a debt of gratitude for taking the heat off him on Scotland’s favourite phone in.

The Gers boss might be getting grief in the wake of Sunday’s League Cup final defeat but Scott’s assertion that the European co-efficient proves the Ibrox club is better than Celtic provoked the expected response from the Parkhead punters.

Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: “Listening to some of the comments on here from Rangers fans is priceless! They still claim to be better than us because of the coefficient in Europe and apparently they have less money than us to spend but claim they’re a bigger and better club? I remember well a man saying for every £1 Celtic spend we will spend £5 so how did that turn out for you? Celtic are simply a better run club with a better team and also judging by Sundays TIFO’s their fans are a long way ahead as well! Thanks for making us all laugh.”

Gerry McDonald, Kirkintilloch, added: “Scott Gowers criticising Celtic’s recent European record is desperation. Rangers are the worst team ever to play in the UCL. They were outfought, outthought and outplayed at Hampden. Celtic are worthy champions-elect, and the silverware keeps piling up. Normal service has been resumed.”

And Robert McEwan, Mount Vernon said: “So Mr Gowers is letting us Celtic fans know that Rangers are doing better in the coefficient. Well, I will burst his bubble... as long as we keep winning trophies, he can keep his jealous coefficient table.”

Henry Moffat, Stirling, emailed: “Scott Gowers call on yesterday’s Hotline was hilarious. To suggest Rangers are better than Celtic after being outclassed on a neutral ground, based on European results when they have just made headlines across the world being the worst ever team in Champions League history is embarrassing. Get used to being second best Scott, permanently!”

Not that Beale emerged unscathed. Eddie Easson, Ballingry, Fife emailed: “The Beale honeymoon period is coming to an end. He showed all his talents in 100 minutes at Hampden.

"All Celtic supporters were amazed by his team selection, picking an unfit Lundstram and Tillman. The substitution of Morelos when he was on fire. Then at the end not making sure his players and staff applaud the winning team. Not to mention the absence of the Celtic name on their cup final shirt. Yes, he and his club showed all their class. He is just a yes man for a bitter board.”

Grant Richards emailed: “How long are we going to have to listen to this drivel that Rangers are a work in process? Rangers fans just need to face facts - Celtic are the better team. Also Raskin, Jack and Cantwell played for 30 mins and in that time I don’t recall Hart making a save.”

Gerard Kelly emailed: “I’m sorry but all those Rangers fans that come on here and say they will be champions next season... are they deluded? You and your team are sore losers and it was proved on Sunday! Your manager talks a good game after the spiel about letting the Jags score a goal, saying it’s all in good sport. Then you walk down the tunnel after getting your medals like pathetic sore losers.

“Your manager is all mouth and it won’t be long before he is found out just like QPR did.”

Andrew Lamb, Fraserburgh, said: “If Beale wants success, he simply has to move on ‘go to’ players like Kent , Morelos and Kamara. I would offload them , Roofe , Wright and Sakala , and move for Ross Stewart and Ryan Fraser . Gers still have Matondo and Lawrence to get a run in that team too. Helander needs to go and a new keeper and centre back is also a must.”

Alan Milligan emailed: “Ross Wilson should be shown the door immediately by Rangers. He has been a total disaster. His signings like Ramsey, Souttar, and Matonda among others have been total disasters. His handling of Kent and Morelos contracts have also been shocking. He needs gone with the rest of the duds he has brought to the club.”

Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, said: “I don’t see any mention of Abada’s blatant attempt to cheat the system on Sunday. Who would believe it, Celtic trying to con the referees and VAR? The game’s up boys. Your pitiful conspiracy theory is now clear for all to see.”

Finally, Neil Renton, Edinburgh, may have had his tongue in his cheek, saying: “I don’t see why Craig Levein is tipped to be the new Dundee United boss. His glory days as a manager are way behind him. They should go for lifelong United fan Lorraine Kelly to take charge. She wouldn’t take any nonsense from the players of the club.”
