Celtic could be stopped by new Rangers signing Ianis Hagi says former Ibrox star

Dorin Goian says Ianis Hagi can stop Celtic achieving 10-in-a-row.

The Romanian played 42 times for Rangers, and is delighted to see his countryman arrive on a permanent deal.

Hagi's moved to Ibrox was confirmed on Wednesday, following a successful loan spell with Steven Gerrard's side last season.

Speaking in the Scottish Sun, Goian said: “I’m confident Ianis Hagi can help Rangers stop Celtic winning their tenth title.

“I’m sure Rangers believe this too, otherwise they wouldn’t have signed him.

“They believe in Hagi and Rangers have trust in his qualities. It doesn’t matter that Celtic have won the last nine league titles.

“It depends on him, but Scottish football needs a player like Ianis Hagi.

"He’s a special kind of player, someone who at any time can decide a game with one moment of magic.

“He’s already playing for Romania and he has big quality for sure.

“He’s still a young player and he’s shown he can grow up quickly, but he can definitely improve more at Rangers.

“That is a good environment for him to get better and I think it is a good decision for Rangers that they were able to sign Hagi.

“If he plays well and he stays healthy he can improve, especially if he adds more goals.

“I’m happy he decided to stay with Rangers.

"He had one experience in Italy (with Fiorentina) but he decided to remain with Rangers. In my opinion that is the right thing.

"Rangers is a huge team in Europe and the pressure to have to win every game will help him learn and add to his mentality.

“Rangers need a player like Hagi.

"You don’t meet players every day of the week who can shoot with both feet in the way he can. He’s quick and skilful.

“His vision on the pitch is very good too, so hopefully he has opportunities to win championships with Rangers.

"If he does this, the fans will love him very much.

“What’s important is Ianis must know the pressure at Rangers and his standards always have to be high.

"Even a draw at Rangers is like a game lost.”
