Celtic chief Peter Lawwell spotted in Istanbul for Champions League final

Eagle-eyed Celtic fans have spotted Peter Lawwell in Istanbul ahead of the Champions League final.

And this could perhaps deliver a huge clue as to who the new manager of the Scottish champions could be.

Earlier today we told you how Celtic were expected to make a formal approach for Manchester City assistant Enzo Maresca after today's final between the Premier League giants and Inter Milan.

The Italian is reportedly the leading candidate to place Ange Postecoglou in Glasgow's east end.

Despite having only managed one club in his coaching career to date, Parma, and that ended in disaster, he is highly regarded within the City Football Group - a source Celtic have leaned heavily on in the past.

And it seems like Celtic could well be ready to step up their recruitment process for a new boss with club chairman Lawwell in Turkieye for tonight's game.

He appeared on Sky Sports News during the build-up to the big match.

Lawwell was spotted alongside Paris Saint-Germain owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

It's probably no surprise that he's in attendance for the game though, as the 64-year-old is also a member of UEFA's Professional Football Strategy Council. They have a meeting scheduled prior to the game.

But it would be fair to say that appointing a replacement boss at Parkhead will also be at the forefront of his mind, and so the trip could also be to speak to Maresca.

He impressed during an interview the last time Celtic were on the lookout for a manager, but fell short up against Postecoglou.
