Celtic break silence on Green Brigade ban amid 'serious safety concerns'

Celtic have confirmed that the Green Brigade have been suspended from all games with immediate effect due to "serious safety concerns".

The Parkhead ultras were already locked out of away fixtures but will now be unable to attend home matches as well.

Those part of the group, which is housed in the north curve of the stadium, have received direct communications to inform them of the decision.

And now Celtic have confirmed the move in a statement. A spokesperson said: "To avoid any misunderstanding the progressive steps taken by the club over a period of time are as a result of an increasingly serious escalation in unacceptable behaviours and non-compliance with applicable regulations, at matches at Celtic Park and away grounds over a period of time, which are creating serious safety concerns and other issues."

It's understood that this decision has nothing to do with the Green Brigade's support of Palestine amidst the current conflict in Israel.

The suspension comes after the latest UEFA fines handed down to Celtic as a result of the ultras' behaviour during this season's Champions League.

Pyro was set off by the group in Rotterdam as Brendan Rodgers' side lost to Feyenoord during their Group E opener. It's also believed that the Green Brigade illegally entered Celtic Park to prepare a large unauthorised tifo display which was held aloft prior to the match against Lazio
