Celine Dion fury as she's snubbed from Rolling Stone's 200 Greatest Singers Of All Time

Celine Dion has been excluded from Rolling Stone's list of the 200 Greatest Singers Of All Time, with fans slamming 'the audacity' of the magazine.

The 54-year-old music icon is well-known for her powerful vocals and has sold more than 200 million records worldwide.

As well as being the best-selling Canadian recording artist, she has also won a whole host of awards across her five-decade long career including five Grammy Awards and two Honorary Doctorates in Music.

The top spot on Rolling Stone's list was taken by Aretha Franklin who was followed by Whitney Houston, Sam Cooke and Billie Holiday.

Mariah Carey came in fifth place and was followed by Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Beyonce, Otis Reeding and Al Green.

But Celine was nowhere to be seen, with fans taking to Twitter to share their frustrations.

One person wrote: "Disagreements are normal and expected when doing lists like this, but the fact that Celine Dion isn't included just doesn't make any sense."

"The audacity to put MJ at position 86 and excluding Celine Dion. Delete," urged another.

A third fan questioned: "Eeeer @RollingStone, Celine Dion ( the mother of vocals) is missing from this list. Like who talks about vocals without Celine Dion?"

"The AUDACITY of not including thee Ms Celine," penned another.

Other fans weren't too disappointed with the snub, with one person tweeting: "celine dion doesn’t need no damn rolling stone to tell her she's one of the best vocalists in the world, she makes her own lists."

Seemingly anticipating the backlash, Rolling Stone tweeting an explanation for the list.

"Before you start scrolling (and commenting), keep in mind that this is the Greatest Singers list, not the Greatest Voices List. Talent is impressive; genius is transcendent," they wrote.

When Rolling Stone first published its list of 100 Greatest Singers back in 2008, they "used an elaborate voting process that included that included input from well-known musicians".

The results were skewed toward classic rock and singers from the 60s and 70s.

The updated version of 200 Greatest Singers was compiled by the publication's staff and key contributors and encompassed 100 years of pop music.

"These are the vocalists that have shaped history and defined our lives — from smooth operators to raw shouters, from gospel to punk, from Sinatra to Selena to SZA," the article read.
