Celebrity Gogglebox star Sheila Hancock says she was 'sacked' from Channel 4 show

Former Celebrity Gogglebox star Dame Sheila Hancock has claimed that she was "sacked" from the Channel 4 show.

The 89-year-old actress used to appear on the hit show alongside This Morning's Gyles Brandreth. She has since been replaced, and the latest celebrity face to join Gyles has been Countdown's Carol Vorderman.

Sheila appeared on Gogglebox back in 2019 and featured in six episodes. Speaking to Radio 2, in a new interview, the star said she "loved every minute of it."

She then went on to claim that she "got the sack" from the couch critic show. She said: "They didn’t ask me back for some reason, I suppose because I was too rude about some of the things I saw.

“I, honest to God, had not seen most of the programmes they showed us – like all those where everyone was showing off their private parts. And I was deeply shocked, quite genuinely overwhelmed by the whole thing.”

In this year’s line-up, fans have seen Fearne Cotton and Gok Wan, Judi Love and Charlene White, Oti Mabuse and Bill Bailey and Rylan Clark with his mum Linda appear on the show. There are also other well-known names in the series including Spice Girls' Mel C, broadcaster Clare Balding and former Radio One DJ Nick Grimshaw.
