Celebrations makes change to 2020 advent calendar after previous complaints

It is officially December 1 and many will be eagerly opening door number one on their advent calendars today.

Advent calendar is already trending on Twitter, with people sharing their thoughts on this year's chocolate offerings.

For the last two years the popular Celebrations calendar has caused uproar for putting one of the most divisive chocolates in the collection, the Bounty, behind door number one. Last year Celebrations, which is owned by Mars, took it one step further, putting the coconut chocolate behind door number two also.

Some claimed it had "ruined Christmas" for them in 2019 and many were anticipating the same for 2020, but instead Celebrations has made an unexpected change.

The chocolate company has put a Maltesers behind door number one, telling fans they've "listened, learnt and changed."

A tweet on the official Celebrations account read: "We've listened, we've learnt, we've changed! You wanted Maltesers behind door number one this year… we got ya! Enjoy the nation's favourite Celebrations chocolate!"

And there's been a huge reaction from Celebrations fans, with one writing: "Happy December 1st, got a Maltesers one in my Celebrations advent calendar. Today is gonna be a good day."

Another added: "You know it's going to be a good day when the first chocolate out the advent calendar is a Celebrations Malteser."

And a third responded: "My Celebrations advent calendar was a Malteser not a Bounty everything is okay."

And when one social media user tweeted about expecting a Bounty behind the first door, Celebrations responded telling them they'd both "changed" and "grown up."

The post read: "You'd think after moaning several years in a row, that folk buying a Celebrations advent calendar should know by now they're getting a Bounty on day one."

"We've changed this year... perhaps we've grown up," Celebrations said, before adding: "We've given the people what they want, with a Maltesers behind door number."

Mars Wrigley's Head of Christmas, Chloe Smith, told The Mirror: "Last year we were accused of 'ruining Christmas'. In all honesty, we're not sure what all the fuss was about – we love Bounty!

"But while our social media managers continue to recover from last year's controversy, we thought we'd go for a safer bet. Enter the nation's favourite Celebrations - the Maltesers Teasers - to kick off the festivities.

"Bounty lovers, don’t get your Snickers in a Twix, you won’t have to wait long…"
