CCTV footage shows thug armed with screwdrivers threaten takeaway worker before stealing cash register

A takeaway worker was left terrified after an armed thug threatened him before making off with hundreds of euro from the shop's till.

The horrifying robbery took place in a pizzeria in south Dublin at around 8:30pm last night.

CCTV footage shows the masked thief, who is dressed in all black with and wearing a hat and gloves, casually walking into the takeaway and behind the counter.

He then shows the stunned staff member the screwdrivers and demands he open the till.

The terrified worker opens the till and the thug begins stuffing his pockets with money before taking the whole drawer from the register.

He briefly places it on the counter before picking it up and nonchalantly walking back out of the shop.

The takeaway's devastated owner told Dublin Live his staff member was in shock following the incident and he has given him the day off to recover from the ordeal.

The shop has only been open since September and the owner revealed the cruel robber made off with almost the whole night's takings.

He said: "I worked very hard to open this, doing 1,000 leaflets a day by myself to put food on the table for my family and then this kind of thing happens. Its very heartbreaking."

A garda spokeswoman told Dublin Live they are investigating the shocking robbery.

She said: "A male entered the premises armed with what is believed to be two screwdrivers and threatened staff.

"The suspected offender took a sum of cash which was contained in the till drawer and fled the scene on foot.

"No arrests have been made at this time and investigations are continuing."
