CB Chris Jones has caught the eye of Kliff Kingsbury

One of the more understated position battles on the Arizona Cardinals roster during training camp is at cornerback. But this position battle is to make the roster.

Because Patrick Peterson, Robert Alford, Byron Murphy and Tramaine Brock are all locks for the roster, there might be one or two more spots available on the roster for a cornerback.

Chris Jones might be close to locking that next spot up. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury has noticed him.

“Since I’ve watched him, he’s flashed, even in the spring,” he told reporters after practice on Tuesday.

He has been making plays in practice and made plays in the team’s preseason opener.

“(He is) big, physical, workmanlike, approaches his craft the right way,” Kingsbury continued. “You like to see that. He’s gotten better and better and excited to watch him play these next three weeks.”

Jones is ready for the challenge, according to AZCentral Sports’ Bob McManaman.

“I’ve been grinding since spring, in the weight room, outside at practice and when the time comes, I have to be ready,” he said. “When they call your name, you can’t be scared. You just got to stay with it.”

He is a player to watch in the next three games.
