Cavs' J.R. Smith serves one-game suspension for detrimental conduct

CLEVELAND _ The Cavaliers suspended guard J.R. Smith one game for detrimental conduct, although coach Tyronn Lue would not give details of what prompted the discipline.

Smith served the suspension Thursday night against the Philadelphia 76ers at Quicken Loans Arena.

Rodney Hood started in place of Smith, with Jeff Green also available after he missed Tuesday's game with lower back soreness.

Lue said Smith would regain his starting spot when the Cavs host the Denver Nuggets on Saturday night.

"He was great this morning," Lue said as Smith attended shootaround at Cleveland Clinic Courts. "Something happened after shootaround, so that's all the details I'm going to give to you. He'll be ready for tomorrow and be ready to go on Saturday."

Smith has started 56 of the Cavs' 59 games this season and is averaging 8.3 points, 3 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 29.3 minutes.

Smith did not play in the fourth quarter of Tuesday night's home victory over the Brooklyn Nets. He scored four points on 2 of 9 field goals, 0 for 3 from long range, in 22 minutes.

Lue has stuck with Smith through a rocky 1{ seasons because Lue felt the Cavs wouldn't have won the 2016 NBA title without Smith's crucial third-quarter scoring in Game 7 against the Golden State Warriors.

Smith has started 213 of 223 games since he was traded to Cleveland from the New York Knicks in a three-team deal on Jan. 5, 2015.
