Cavan won't seek venue change for All-Ireland semi-final against Dublin

Cavan GAA will not be seeking a change of venue for their All-Ireland semi-final against Dublin.

The Breffni Blues will meet the five-in-a-row champions at Croke Park on Saturday, December 5 with a 5:30pm throw-in. The winner will play Tipperary or Mayo in the All-Ireland final.

There had been calls from some quarters this week for the game to be played outside Dublin after Cavan's shock Ulster final win over Donegal last Sunday, with some commentators suggesting the venue gives Dessie Farrell's side an unfair advantage.

But a Cavan County Board statement released today read: "Cavan Co Board would like to clarify that they absolutely and categorically have never considered, nor, have they any intention of applying for a venue change for the upcoming All Ireland Semi Final Fixture.

"We are honoured and look forward to playing the All Ireland Semi Final as is fixed by the CCC."

Cavan boss Mickey Graham had questioned whether the game should be held at a 'neutral' venue but the case now seems to be closed.

"With the year that is in it, no crowds allowed in, is there a need to go to it, that's my point?" he told the Irish Independent.

"Would a nice neutral venue, somewhere different for a change, be any harm? For Dublin, that's like their own back garden, they are so used to playing there.

"A lot of our lads would never have been there before, it's a first time for them and it's a huge experience for them and it's definitely a disadvantage for us.

"I'm sure we would like to play it in a different venue. For us to go to Croke Park itself the task is going to be huge, so it would be nice but the powers that be will decide that."
