Catherine Zeta-Jones shares 20-year-old Oscars throwback photo ahead of awards ceremony

It's almost time for The Oscars and Catherine Zeta-Jones has been getting into the spirit. While the Welsh actress has admitted she will be watching the 95th Academy Awards from the comfort of her sofa, the 53-year-old has sent a message to this year's nominees.

As she wished those nominated good luck, Catherine shared a throwback to the 2002 film Chicago, which saw her win Best Supporting Actress at the 75th Academy Awards. Sharing three photographs from the popular musical, Catherine wrote: "Oscars!!! 20 years ago I was fortunate to pick up a little guy for 'Chicago' sending congratulations to all the nominees for tonight's celebrations!"

Catherine played Velma Kelly in the film and was nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category alongside Kathy Bates, Julianne Moore, Queen Latifah, and Meryl Streep. She was nine months pregnant with her daughter Carys at the time.

Upon accepting her award Catherine gave a shout-out to Swansea and south Wales, telling those at home that she loved them. She also dedicated the Oscar to her son Dylan and husband Michael Douglas.

Commenting on Catherine's throwback, one fan wrote: "A truly well-deserved award for such an outstanding performance, as Velma Kelly in 'Chicago', by one of the most talented triple-threats in the world: happy Oscar Sunday, Catherine!"

While another simply added: "Iconic," and a third said: "You played this part to perfection."

It comes just days after Catherine shared another throwback to her time on the original The Darling Buds of May set. Catherine starred on the ITV show from 1991 to 1993 as Mariette Charlton, the eldest Larkin daughter.

In the image, a then 21-year-old Catherine can be seen sitting in the grass as she looks at the camera. She captioned the image: "A 21 years old me on the set of The Darling Buds of May in Kent, England. Oh those lazy, hazy, crazy days of an endless summer in 'the garden of England'. Perfick."

The 2023 Oscars kick off on Sunday, March 12. The three-hour ceremony officially starts at 8pm ET, which means it will be available live from 12am GMT. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
