Catherine Tyldesley says ITV banned her from going on Strictly when she was on Coronation Street

Former Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley says ITV banned her from appearing on Strictly Come Dancing while she was in the soap.

The Walkden actress has claimed she was only allowed to be on ITV shows such as Dancing On Ice during her time playing Eva Price on Corrie .

Cath, who played Eva from 2011 to 2018, left the cobbles last year after being involved in a harrowing storyline which saw her ex Aidan Connor take his own life and the barmaid fight his family for custody of their baby Susie.

She told the PA news agency: "I have spoken to (the show's producers) before but it felt like this was the right time.

"It had to work for us as a family, and this is the right time.

"When you're in Corrie they're not going to let you, they won't let you do it. They'll only let you do ITV things like Dancing On Ice."

In Georgia May Foote, who played Katy Armstrong in the soap, came runner-up on the BBC One dance show with Giovanni Pernice.

Cath said: "I'm a massive fan of the show. Huge fan of the show.

"And it's like my husband said - we watch it every year, but now I'm actually doing it.

"I'm like: 'Oh, it's not quite the same as watching it on the telly, it's all a bit real.' But yeah, the opportunity to learn a new skill."

On Saturday night's launch show the Scarborough actress, who has joked that her dance style is 'Mr Bean', was thrilled to be partnered with Johannes Radebe.

"I'm so happy," she told host Tess Daly.

"Sorted. These two are going to have a right old giggle arent' they?" said Tess.

The M.E.N. has approached ITV for comment.
