Police are warning South Side residents of a series of catalytic converter thefts reported over the last few weeks in Englewood and Park Manor.
In each case, someone cut the converters from underneath a vehicle, Chicago police said in a community alert. People discovered the theft when they started the vehicle at a later time.
The thefts happened:
- About 7 a.m. Aug. 15 in the 5600 block of South Hoyne Avenue
- Between midnight and 9 a.m. Aug. 15 in the 5900 block of South Elizabeth Street
- Between 10 p.m. and 2 p.m. Aug. 19-20 in the 5700 block of South Wood Street
- About 9 a.m. Aug. 20 in the 5600 block of South Wood Street
- About 7:30 a.m. Aug. 21 in the 7200 block of South Lafayette Avenue
- About 1:30 a.m. Aug. 26 in the 6500 block of South Harvard Avenue
- Between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Aug. 26-27 in the 7100 block of South Damen Avenue
- Between 10 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. Aug. 27-28 in the 1300 block of West 71st Street
- Between midnight and 7:30 a.m. Aug. 27-28 in the 6200 block of South Throop Street
- About 7 a.m. Aug. 28 in the 6100 block of South Ada Street
- About 8 p.m. Sept. 1 in the 6400 block of South Harvard Avenue.
A blue vehicle, possibly a Chrysler 300, was seen parked alongside the vehicles during two thefts, police said.
