Cat has learnt to use Ring doorbell to get into house

An ingenious cat has learnt to use its owner’s Ring Video Doorbell to come inside the house. In a clip shared by the cat’s owner Amanda, from her Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus, her long-haired, male, ginger cat Izzy climbs a wisteria archway before moving around to signal he’s waiting.

Perching on the letterbox, eight-month-old Izzy then begins to meow, and has a chat with Amanda via Ring’s Two Way Talk feature. Ring’s Advanced Motion Detection feature means that Amanda’s phone is alerted when someone (human or feline) is near the door, with Izzy clocking how to take advantage and hop back indoors.

According to Amanda, Izzy has positioned himself in front of the doorbell multiple times and makes it obvious he wants to come in with his meows.

She said: “He does like to climb. We’ve got an orangery in the back of our garden and quite often you hear him meowing pitifully and you realise he’s on the roof trying to work his way down.”

Though Izzy is “quite big for his age”, he’s a gentle giant, and gets along well with Amanda’s parrot, chickens and ducks.

Amanda received her Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus as a gift from her mum two years ago, adding: “We use it to see who is at the door because both myself and my partner work full time, so it is good when parcels come and you can tell them where to leave it.”

A Ring spokesperson said: “We’re always amazed at the different ways our devices come in handy for all types of people, creatures and animals. When we created Advanced Motion Detection, we didn’t anticipate that clever cats would use it to persuade their owners to let them back inside. It was brilliant to see this remarkable moment captured using a Ring device.”
