Castleford Tigers duo set to leave as rebuild under Lee Radford continues

The futures of long-serving Castleford Tigers duo Jesse Sene-Lefao and Alex Foster look almost certain to be away from the club in 2022 as their squad overhaul for next season gathers pace.

The pair, who are both out of contract at the end of this season, have still not agreed terms on a new deal with Castleford ahead of Lee Radford's arrival next season, and Rugby League Live understands both will now likely sign elsewhere.

Sene-Lefao has interest from a number of clubs, but Salford Red Devils are believed to be leading the chase for the 31-year-old. Sene-Lefao, who has spent five seasons with Castleford and been an integral part of their success under Daryl Powell, was coy last week when asked about his future, declining to comment on what his contractual situation was.

But the Tigers' squad for 2022 is all but complete, meaning there is unlikely to be a spot for Sene-Lefao and Foster in the budget. Both players can cover other positions but are primarily seen as back-rowers. Castleford have already signed the likes of Alex Sutcliffe and Kenny Edwards to play there in 2022.

Foster is also in his fifth season with the Tigers, and like Sene-Lefao, has interest from other clubs about a move elsewhere. At least one Championship club have tabled a deal to try and sign the 27-year-old, and he is another whose future looks to be away from the Mend-A-Hose Jungle.

Castleford are set to undergo a major revamp of their squad ahead of Radford's arrival next year. As well as Sutcliffe and Edwards coming in, Castleford have also struck deals to sign the likes of Hull FC winger Bureta Faraimo, Wakefield forward Joe Westerman and Warrington Wolves utility Jake Mamo.

Long-serving players such as Michael Shenton, Peter Mata'utia and Oliver Holmes will depart - and Sene-Lefao and Foster now look likely to join them.
