Members of Dumbarton Castle Society have been presented with a quilt dedicated to the children born on the town’s iconic Rock.
Created by Gillian Johnston, the quilt tells the story of some of the children born on the landmark whilst it was home to the Royal Artillery.
Gillian discovered the little known fact when researching historic ledgers from St Augustine’s church.
Speaking to the Lennox Herald last week she said: “I told a few local people and they were taken aback.
“In just the ledgers from one church I found 56 children who were born on Dumbarton Rock, so I had to follow it up to confirm the fact, but can you imagine life on the Rock?
“I’m fascinated by social history and that’s really what I’ve tried to capture here.”
