There were some positives to take away from the Eagles’ 37-19 loss at home to the Los Angeles Rams and we can start with the Birds banged-up offensive line managing to keep Aaron Donald from wrecking the game plan, only to watch the Rams offense led by Sean McVay and Jared Goff shred the No. 1 defense in the NFL.
The Eagles 0-2 start is their worst since 2015, and if not for them playing in the NFC East, the hot seat would probably be intensely warm for head coach Doug Pederson and quarterback Carson Wentz. The Eagles defense has given up 57 points in its last six quarters and most importantly, Carson Wentz has thrown four interceptions in two games after throwing just seven last season.
Asked if the team is panicking, Wentz made it clear that the Eagles will be “ok” despite the frustrating start to the season.
“We’re obviously frustrated,” Wentz said. “You never want to start 0-2. Last week, the way we lost to Washington, starting 0-1, obviously not what we want and not how we expect to finish ballgames, and then today, coming out behind again. … There are enough things through two games, offensively speaking, that we can put on the tape and know we’re right there. … Don’t panic; we’ll be OK. I’ve always had all the confidence in the world in our defense. … We’re not panicking.”
The Eagles held Aaron Donald without a sack, but couldn’t do enough on offense to keep the Rams multifaceted and explosive offense off of the field. Wentz for his part was terrible for a second straight game and will have to do some self-reflection with Joe Burrows and the Bengals heading to town.
