Carson Wentz: ‘An opportunity to grow’

Carson Wentz made his first DMV radio appearance, fielding questions from Brian Mitchell and JP Finlay of 106.7 The Fan, Thursday.

Here are some excerpts of Wentz responding to questions about the 2017 season, playing in Philly, Indianapolis, moving forward and playing at a high level for the Commanders.

CW: “It feels like an eternity ago. For me, I’m always trying to evolve my game where I can get better. There have been ups and downs along the way. I think the biggest thing for me is how can I stay available? How can I stay healthy? Just trying to be smart, play smart. Distributing the ball to the playmakers and let them do their jobs. I look forward to doing that and continuing to try to master the craft of the quarterback position.”

CW: “You grow up. I now have a wife and kids. You grow up as a man. You are always trying to learn. I think that is what this business is. Really, every business. You can never be complacent. You are always trying to grow and get better. And have people in your corner that truly want what is best for you and are willing to tell you.”

CW: “There are little things, there are big things. There is a lot of good I can continue to build upon. Just try to be the best player, best leader, best husband, father, all of those things, that I can be.”

“There have been ups and downs. It’s kinda crazy. I would have never imagined it going the way it did in Philly and then going the way the season finished in Indy and now here I am.”

“There are positives along the way. As a man and a competitor you don’t look to be traded or not wanted and all those things. But at the same time, it is an opportunity still. An opportunity to grow, put my foot forward and play the game I love.”

Commenting on this being his third team in three years, Mitchell asked Wentz if he saw this as “I have to get it right this time.”

CW: “I try my best to not let it be like that because there is enough expectation, pressure, riding on it. This is where my faith comes in. Ok, God, you have a plan, and I am just going to be the best I can be. I am confident that is good enough.”

“God willing, I will be here for a long time and have lots of success. There are a lot of things outside of my control. There are a lot of things in this game you cannot control. I will control what I can control, do my best and I think I will like the result.”
