Cars set on fire in suspected early morning arson attack in Blackwood

A fire which is being investigated as an arson left two cars gutted and firefighters battling a blaze in the early hours of the morning.

The emergency services were called to Blackwood at 4.15am on Wednesday to reports of criminal damage.

They attended Albany Road where a black Mercedes GLA and a white Citroen C3 had been set on fire.

The Mercedes was burnt out as a result of the fire while the Citroen was seriously damaged.

It is believed the fires were caused deliberately and the incident is being treated as arson.

A spokesman from Gwent Police said: "Enquiries into the arson are ongoing.

"We are currently appealing for anyone who may have witnessed or has information about this incident to get in contact with Gwent Police."

A spokeswoman from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "At approximately 4.13am on Wednesday, February 19 received reports of vehicle fires on Albany Road in Blackwood.

"A crew from Aberbargoed attended the scene to extinguish the fire. A stop message was received at 4.44am.

"The supposed cause at this time has been deemed as deliberate."
