Carrying strap for wireless AirPods dubbed 'ridiculous' by Apple fans

Since they were launched back in 2016, AirPods have become some of the most popular tech products around.

Apple ’s wireless earphones offer users an easy way for users to listen to music on the go, without the annoyance of any trailing wires.

But while the earphones’ main selling point is the wireless design, a rather bizarre accessory has gone on sale that slightly defeats this purpose.

US retail giant Nordstrom has started selling an AirPods Carrying Strap for $60, which essentially transforms the AirPods back into wired earphones.

The listing reads: “Avoid losing your wireless AirPods by attaching them to this magnetic-locking leather strap and wearing around the neck when not in use.”

Unsurprisingly, many people have flocked to Twitter to mock the carrying strap, with many joking that we’ve ‘come full circle’.

One user wrote: “Does anyone else see how redundant this is???? AirPods are all about being cord/strap free. AirPod owners, what do you think?”

Another wrote: “AirPod culture is ridiculous. Materialism at its silliest. Y’all are truly spending $150+ for the AirPods and $60 for a “carrying strap” so you don’t lose em, while some of us are fine using the ear buds that came with our phone. I mean, ydy I guess.”

And one joked: “What boomer approved the AirPod carrying strap?”

Despite this backlash, the carrying strap has received several rave reviews on the Nordstrom website, with one user calling it the 'perfect accessory.'

We'll have to wait and see if the accessory catches on!
