Carol Vorderman 'lives life without apology' as she opens up about 'special friends' lifestyle

Former Countdown star, Carol Vorderman, has opened up about the "overwhelming response" she has received after speaking about about her "freer" dating life on ITV's This Morning, thanking her followers for listening to her and for their support and honesty.

During a segment on the show hosted by its Friday presenters Alison Hammond and Dermont O'Leary, which aired on Friday, October 7, the 61-year-old was seen talking about dating advice. She revealed that she had had a number of "special friends" for several years and spoke of how she didn't want to marry or live with a man again - something she has been open about in the past.

Shortly after the clip aired, the Welsh presenter posted a video on the picture social media platform explaining how she'd had "hundreds and hundreds" of messages from women who have thanked her for being so honest about the pressure to find 'the one' and explained how she lives her life in chapters and "without apology".

In the post, she said: "LIVING LIFE WITHOUT APOLOGY. It's been about 24 hours since I spoke openly on @thismorning @itv about how I have lived my life in terms of relationships over the last 10 years or so. I have a number of "special friends" and some of those relationships have gone on for many years.

"I feel freer than ever and love my life in all its many elements. Work. Home. Children. Friends. Laugh. Special friends. I have been overwhelmed by hundreds and hundreds of you, men and women, saying how you either live this life yourself or how you have now started thinking about it and how it perhaps hadn't occurred to you before. A life spent with special friends isn't perhaps for everyone, but neither is a life exclusively living with one person suitable for others.

"I am a strong believer in living life in chapters. I had a beautifully happy marriage for instance which lasted for more than a decade. It then ended very quickly but that doesn't negate the fact that it was an incredibly happy marriage (with two children) for all of that time. What I have wanted has changed as life has moved on. So it seems that many of you would like more open discussion about this way of living. Maybe we should do an IG live or something at some point? Or talk about it more on @thismorning. Just let me know. Have a great weekend xx"

Celebrity pals and fans of the author were quick to offer their support to Carol, with Steps star Ian 'H' Watkins writing: "I bloody love you ! GO CAR !!"

Television journalist Vanessa Feltz commented: "You deserve to be happy in whatever form you choose. You are adorable and I am so glad you are loved desired and appreciated" while Christine McGuinness also added: "Things I like to see!"
