Brazilian striker Carlos Vinícius will wear the number 45 shirt for Tottenham having joined Spurs on loan from Benfica this week.
The forward -known as V95- has previously worn the number 95 shirt at every club he's played at -except for French outfit Monaco- as a tribute to his idol Cristiano' CR7' Ronaldo.
That dream has been dashed, however, with the Premier League willing to reject any attempt to claim the number.
That is because it goes against their rules that dictate squad numbers must be consecutive and close to the current highest number.
The highest number in the Tottenham squad at present is 47 and is worn by former Leeds winger Jack Clarke.
It's not the first time a player with Benfica connections has had squad number trouble in the Premier League.
When Portuguese midfielder Renato Sanches joined Swansea City on loan, he had intended to adopt the number 85.
He was subsequently forced to use the number 35 after the Premier League informed the Swans that it went against their rules.
Vinícius’ preferred number is a reference to his birth year having been born in 1995. The striker also played alongside Man City star Gabriel Jesus at youth level.
Spurs have an option to make his loan move permanent next summer.
