Carlos Tevez announces retirement as Gabriel Jesus hints at Man City future update

Here are your Manchester City evening headlines for Saturday, June 4.

Tevez announces retirement

Argentina great Carlos Tevez has called time on a superb playing career that saw him represent both Manchester clubs and controversially switch from Manchester United to Manchester City in 2009.

Despite having offers to continue - namely from the MLS - the 38-year-old has hung up his boots as well as citing the heartbreaking reason for that decision. Tevez admits he's struggled for footballing motivation after the death of his adopted father, Segundo Raimundo, in February.

Tevez has been without a club since leaving beloved hometown side Boca Juniors last season and leaves a mixed legacy in Manchester. He first touched down in the Premier League with West Ham in 2006.

Jesus hints at City future update

Gabriel Jesus indicated that his club future could be sorted as early as next week as he looks to decide on the right challenge to keep him in the Brazil squad for the World Cup.

Jesus was signed by Manchester City in 2016 and has enjoyed plenty of success under Pep Guardiola, but has also had frustrating spells out of the team and lengthy goal droughts. The player seemed to suggest he was happier out on the right wing this season - that is certainly what Guardiola said he had been told - only to later say he enjoyed playing centrally as a No.9.

With just 12 months left on his contract at the Etihad, a decision is needed this summer to determine whether Jesus stays with City or moves elsewhere. Such a call is complicated by the World Cup in December, which leaves the Brazilian knowing he needs to give himself the best chance possible of making the squad for that tournament if he wants to stand a chance of winning the biggest team prize in football.
