Carlo Ancelotti has turned his back on Everton

Carlo Ancelotti has left Everton for Real Madrid - turning his back on genuine affection from the club's supporters.

That's the view from our man Dave Prentice, who reflects on the former Blues boss enjoying just five pre-pandemic matches at Goodison Park with a crowd behind him.

He writes: "Chants of "Carlo Magnifico" almost from his accession were in stark contrast to predecessors like Marco Silva, Sam Allardyce and Ronald Koeman who never once inspired the club's influential Gwladys Street to break into song.

"But the unprecedented circumstances forced by the worldwide Coronavirus pandemic meant that it was backing the illustrious Italian did not enjoy long enough.

"Ancelotti enjoyed five pre-pandemic matches at Goodison Park with a crowd behind him. His side was undefeated.

"But it wasn't ever enough to forge a lasting emotional bond."

Six Everton backroom staff depart for Real Madrid

Six members of Carlo Ancelotti's backroom staff have also now left for Real Madrid, the ECHO understands.

Everton were locked in negotiations with the Spanish giants yesterday evening over the release of Ancelotti's team who are following him to the Bernabeu.

His son, Davide Ancelotti, as well as Francesco Mauri, Luca Guerra, Simeone Montanaro, Manuel Morabito and Mino Fulco are to go with him to the Spanish capital.
