Carlo Ancelotti set to make Napoli decision that could affect Arsenal's move for Mikel Arteta

Napoli manager Carlo Ancelotti could present Arsenal with the opportunity to secure his services for free as he prepares to make a big decision on his future in Naples.

The former Chelsea manager is set for a Champions League showdown with Genk this evening, where the Serie A side hoping to secure their spot in the knockout stages of the competition.

However, despite being unbeaten so far in their continental campaign, it has been a turbulent season in Naples as controversial owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has caused plenty of drama.

Last month, he claimed he would sell his entire squad following a dressing room revolt that saw players ignore a curfew set by their owner - with Ancelotti supporting the players.

Now, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano states that Ancelotti is seriously contemplating walking away from his post with Napoli after tonight's match.

"Ancelotti is seriously considering to leave Napoli tonight after match against Genk. Gattuso would be ready to become new Napoli manager," he posted on Twitter.

"Carlo has always been appreciated by Arsenal board... but he'll take a decision about his future with Napoli only tonight after the game."

That could leave the door open for Arsenal to make a move, either appointing Ancelotti as a permanent boss or as caretaker until the end of the season - when the possibility to secure the likes of former Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri is more likely.

However, reports claim former Gunners midfielder Mikel Arteta is currently the favourite to land the role, with Nice boss Patrick Vieira and ex-Valencia coach Marcelino also in consideration.
