Carlo Ancelotti pays Seamus Coleman huge Everton compliment with Sergio Ramos claim

Carlo Ancelotti has paid Seamus Coleman a huge compliment by saying he ranks alongside the very best captains he has managed.

The Everton boss was speaking after Saturday's 2-1 win over Crystal Palace in which Coleman laid on the assist for Dominic Calvert-Lewin to open the scoring.

Coleman has started the season strongly and has retained his position as first-choice right-back despite the return of Jonjoe Kenny following a good season on loan at Schalke.

And Ancelotti says the 31-year-old's leadership skills - and the way he can articulate what it means to play for the club - places him alongside the best skippers he has managed.

"He is doing really well.  Seamus is an example for all of the others, also for the new players, how it is to be a player on the pitch, the attitude and spirit, but also everyday," he said.

"Seamus is a great example of a captain. I have a lot of captains in my career but Seamus has a lot of spirit and attitude and how he is able to explain his love for the shirt is really top."

Asked where Coleman ranked alongside Ancelotti's captains at his previous clubs, he said: "He is a great captain, I cannot make a list but he is a great captain, honestly.

"Maldini, John Terry, Sergio Ramos, that kind of captain."
