Carl Mullan to take break from 2fm show after Dancing with the Stars triumph

Irish TV and radio personality Carl Mullan is going to be taking a much-needed break from work so he can focus on time with his wife Ais after an amazing Dancing with the Stars victory.

While taking part in the dancing show the star was still hosting his full-time 2fm Breakfast radio gig, all the while balancing rehearsals and family life.

Even though he is feeling more confident in himself following the win - he is now struggling with a feeling of imposter syndrome.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with RSVP Magazine, Carl said: "My wife Ais and I went away last weekend. She deserves a break because she’s been holding down the fort.

"We are going to go away as a family with baby Daibhí at the end of the month. We need to get away and chill out."

Carl was working seven days a week while he was on the Sunday show - balancing the three months with his 2fm gig, so his family was in need of some time.

The RTÉ star continued: "It was tough going and we were absolutely exhausted by the end of it. My family had to really row in behind me as well, whether it was minding Daibhí or sorting out this, that or the other.

"They were doing things that I normally would, but I just couldn’t. I really loved the whole experience but I think everyone agreed that we were ready for it to finish because it was exhausting.

"It was relentless in a lot of ways because you have to put every bit of yourself into it.

"With the breakfast show, yes it was tiring, but it was also a privilege to do a job you love while being on one of the biggest TV shows in the country.

"It was never lost on me, even the days where I was feeling sorry for myself and tired. I would say to myself, 'Catch yourself on'.”

Even though 2fm Breakfast is massive and his social following already huge, the star is now experiencing a whole new level of fame after his win.

Carl added: "I have been on radio since 2014, but I was never recognisable on the street and then I started making videos online in lockdown.

"The breakfast show came then in May 2021. It was only when we stopped wearing masks that I realised people were recognising me in public.

"Different generations watch Dancing With The Stars and they might not listen to 2fm or follow me on Instagram. Inherently, Irish people are very decent and it’s rare that someone would come up to you and say something mean."
