Police are warning residents about a series of South Side carjackings this month in Bronzeville, Kenwood, Washington Park and Hyde Park.

In each case, two or three male suspects approached a lone female victim who was either sitting in or standing just outside a vehicle, according to a community alert from Chicago police. They threatened the victim before taking her vehicle and driving away.

In two of the cases, the suspects pointed a handgun at the victim before taking the vehicle, police said.

The hold-ups occurred:

  • About 6 p.m. Jan. 11 in the 500 block of East 49th Street;
  • About 2:30 p.m. Jan. 17 in the 900 block of East 49th Street;
  • About 3:45 p.m. Jan. 19 in the 5600 block of South Michigan Avenue; and
  • About 6:30 p.m. Jan. 19 in the 5400 block of South Dorchester Avenue.

The suspects were between 15 and 20 years old, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Area Central detectives at 312-747-8380.
