'Caring' Belfast schoolgirl commended for helping man in distress at train station

A pupil from a North Belfast school has been praised for helping a man in distress at a Carrickfergus train station.

Belfast Royal Academy lower sixth pupil Molly Hamilton was traveling to school on Monday, November 28, when she noticed a man who was in distress at the platform at Clipperstown Train Station.

After alerting the train driver, Molly went to the passengers aid and helped put him in the recovery position until paramedics arrived.

She had previously received first aid training as a lifeguard to work in Mid and East Antrim Amphitheatre Leisure Centre.

As a way of saying thank you to Molly for her help Translink provided her with complementary iLink day tickets for her and her family.

Commenting on the incident, Hilton Parr, Translink’s Head of Rail Customer Services praised her swift actions as the first responder alongside the conductor.

“This was a very caring and commendable act and her ability to act calmly in the face of a medical emergency is a real testament to her and her training. I am sure her school and parents are very proud of her actions.

“We would like to recognise her efforts and have provided complementary iLink day tickets for her and her family to have a day out on us with hopefully a bit less drama!”
