Cardinals to sign DT Darius Philon to 2-year, $10M contract

The Arizona Cardinals have finally addressed the defensive line. After leaving it completely unaddressed all of the offseason, they are reportedly signing defensive tackle Darius Philon to a two-year deal.

The report comes from both Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport. He will get $10 million, $5 million guaranteed for two years.

Philon played the previous four seasons for the Los Angeles Chargers, originally drafted by them in the sixth round in 2015.

He has played in all 16 games each of the last two seasons, starting 13 last year. He had four sacks and 33 tackles, seven for a loss, last season and 4.5 sacks and 31 tackles, seven for a loss, in 2017.

He also had nine QB hits each of the last two seasons.

That is consistent production.

The 6-1, 300-pounder figures to be a starter on the defensive line. Other than Philon, the Cardinals only have four defensive linemen, only three of which are healthy. They have 30-year-old Corey Peters, Robert Nkemdiche with his torn ACL and both Vicent Valentine and Pasoni Tasini, both of whom were not on the roster for the whole season last year on a 3-13 team.
