Cardinals sign RB Tony Jones Jr. to active roster

The Arizona Cardinals, needing running back depth, made a roster move to ensure they have players available this Sunday when they go on the road to face the Cleveland Browns.

They announced Thursday that running back Tony Jones Jr. was signed from the practice squad to the active roster. He will likely get to play this weekend.

James Conner is still on injured reserve for at least one more game. Emari Demercado, who has started the last two games, injured his toe on Sunday and was unable to practice on Wednesday and Thursday, putting his availability this weekend very much in doubt. Even Damien Williams, who played the last two games, getting elevated from the practice squad, is hurt and was placed on the practice squad injured reserve this week.

Before adding Jones to the roster, Keaontay Ingram was the only other running back on the roster.

Jones originally joined the Cardinals on a waiver claim. Less than a week later, he was released and subsequently signed to the practice squad.

In 22 career games with the Saints and Seahawks, Jones has 88 rushing attempts for 249 yards and two touchdowns.

To replace Jones on the practice squad, the Cardinals signed defensive lineman Kendal Vickers, a 6-foot-3, 295-pound interior defender who has played in 27 games since entering the NFL in 2018 as an undrafted free agent.

He has two career sacks and 22 career tackles.
