Cardinals Scrap Plans to Stick With Josh Dobbs as Starting Quarterback, per Report

The Cardinals will reportedly be making a quarterback change for their Week 9 clash against the Browns

Head coach Jonathan Gannon reportedly plans to bench Josh Dobbs in favor of Clayton Tune or Kyler Murray for the game against Cleveland on Sunday, according to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team

After Sunday’s loss to the Ravens, Gannon had initially said that Dobbs was going to remain Arizona’s starter and that Murray was day-to-day. After reviewing the tape, Gannon had a change of heart and will now be choosing between Tune and Murray as the starter in Week 9, Meirov reported.

However, Tune is expected to be the starter on Sunday “barring a significant change in plans,” though he said it was still possible that Murray would play, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

As the Cardinals’ starter this season, Dobbs has a 1–7 record. He’s thrown for eight touchdowns and five interceptions while scoring three rushing touchdowns.

Tune, 24, has only featured in one game this year and has thrown just one pass in his NFL career. The rookie out of Houston was selected in the fifth round of this year’s draft.

Murray, who practiced with the Cardinals for the first time this season on Oct. 18, did not play during Sunday’s loss against the Ravens. If he’s not active in Week 9, his next chance to play would come against the Falcons on Nov. 12, exactly 11 months after he sustained his ACL injury last year.
