The Arizona Cardinals have begun their moves to trim their roster down to 53 players. They have until Saturday afternoon to do so but announced 5 roster moves Sunday.
They placed rookie receiver Hakeem Butler and veteran safety Josh Shaw on injured reserve. Butler suffered an avulsion fracture in his hand. Shaw had a shoulder injury. Their seasons are over.
The Cardinals also announced the release of three players. The released veteran outside linebacker Andre Branch, a move that was reported earlier Sunday. He had signed with the team on July 30.
They also cut ties with linebackers Hayes Pullard and Jeff Holland. Pullard signed with the team August 2, while Holland was claimed off waivers on August 12.
Arizona must reduce the roster by another 35 by Saturday.
