Cardinals inactives: Justin Murray, David Johnson, Chase Edmonds out vs. 49ers

The Arizona Cardinals, by announcing their list of inactives for their Thursday night contest against the San Francisco 49ers, have answered one of the two questions there were at right tackle. Would Justin Murray be able to play and, if not, who starts in his place?

Murray is among the inactives, so he is going to play. The team did not announce who will start in his place.

The seven inactive players are mostly expected. There is one surprise.

Here are their inactives:

  • WR Damiere Byrd
  • S Charles Washington
  • RB Chase Edmonds
  • RB David Johnson
  • OL Justin Murray
  • DL Michael Dogbe
  • DL Zach Allen

Byrd is the surprise, as he has often played the most offensive snaps among the receivers when he has played. What does this mean? It could mean a concerted effort to run the ball and to use the catching skills of KeeSean Johnson outside. Johnson was inactive last week after seeing his snap count drop significantly the previous week.

Johnson and Edmonds were expected to miss the game.

As for Murray, what is left to be answered is who starts in his place. Will they move Justin Pugh to right tackle and insert Mason Cole at left guard? Will rookie Joshua Miles start?

That question will be answered shortly when the team comes on the field for pregame warmups.
